It feels like day 54,361 of Quarantine, and counting . . . A few things that have been getting me through these days are the rituals that I leaned into before Coronavirus, now writ all the way large. For example, instead of listening to healing meditative music (or Solfeggios) to start my day, I now listen to Solfeggios literally ALL day. Instead of occasionally getting bouquets of flowers, I make it a point to buy flowers all the time. Instead of drinking my favorite wellness elixir every so often, I now drink celery juice daily—at the start of each day—often while listening to Solfeggios and taking in the beauty of the flowers (and emergent jungle) in my apartment.

Those three simple and powerful rituals have collectively had a soothing effect that I’ve been able to maintain despite dealing with challenges that the Quarantine has made manifest. I invite you to try all three, at once! Be intentional about including flowers in your surroundings (and/or become a plant mom); commit to drinking or eating something purely for the wellness benefits that it’s intended to confer; and go about your day (whether meditating or not) enveloped in the soothing sounds of Solfeggio. . . and do let us know how it goes.

Keep reading for  more insights into those three wellness practices/rituals. I’ve included a few videos with audio of Solfeggio below. A recipe for celery juice and a list of its benefits also follows. Enjoy!

1 – Solfeggio to Raise our Vibrations

Solfeggios are scales based on ancient music (including Gregorian Chants) that are intended  to raise our vibrations and align our mind, body, and spirit in perfect harmony. Each note has specific healing properties. The frequency that you’ll hear from videos in this post is 432 hertz and 528 hertz.  528 hertz is associated with transformation and miracle and is the frequency that scientists use for DNA repair. 528 hertz is also associated with the color gold and the element of fire. The healing impact of 528 hertz is amplified with meditation.

2 – Flowers for Color Therapy and Aromatherapy

“Colors, like features, follow the changes of the emotions.” – Pablo Picasso

Colorful flowers (the more exotic the better) are staples in my apartment—a whiff of their fragrant aromas (especially tiger lilies) always serve to lift my mood, not to mention the influence of their bright, festive colors on my mind, and the important decor function that they serve. Flowers provide an easy and relatively inexpensive boost of color and fragrance for positive impacts on our mental and emotional health, which I find as important as the daily vitamins and supplements that I consume for physical health.

3 – Celery Juice for Great Skin, Optimal Gut Health, Anti-Inflammatory Effect, and Lower Blood Pressure and Cholesterol

Celery juice has been shown to confer a number of positive benefits to our general well being. It’s known to aid digestion and hydration, and reduces inflammation. It also lowers blood pressure and bad cholesterol and is a powerful anti-oxidant with antimicrobial and cancer-fighting properties. As if those benefits weren’t enough, celery is one of the most alkalizing foods we can eat and it’s super nutritious—having more potassium and vitamin K than tomato juice and carrot juice.

{Ingredients}

2 or 3 stalks of organic celery
1/2 organic lemon
1/4 cup filtered water

{Notes}

You’ll need a juicer or blender and a strainer (I use this Nutri Ninja blender). Can’t decide between juicing and blending? The Mayo Clinic can help with that decision making. If you’re not able to use organic celery or lemon, be sure to wash extra hard to rinse away any pesticides. Purists might prefer just celery (and maybe a little water), but I find this drink to be much tastier with the addition of juice from a freshly squeezed lemon.

{Method}

1– Chop celery stalks, even the leaves, into 1-inch bits!
2– Combine celery stalks and water in blender, blend until juice from celery is extracted.
3– Strain juice into glass, using your hands to press juice through strainer.
4–Squeeze lemon through strainer, mix lemon juice with celery juice.
5–Consume immediately.

I’d love to know some of the rituals that you’re leaning into (new or old) to make the most of, or to simply pass, this time. Please share in the comments section. Special thanks to my friends Janel and Fallon, for sharing Solfeggios and celery juice benefits with me, respectively. And a shout-out to my mom for always filling our home with bright colorful flowers and plants—inside and out.
